Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Zhongzan cattle farm, about 90 km southeast of Batang, Sichuan, lying between Baxiangling Village and Dingpo Village. It was named by the No. 3 Regional Geological Survey Party of Sichuan Bureau of Geology in 1972.


Lithology and Thickness

Oolitic Limestone. Light-gray and gray-white thick-bedded to massive limestone with fine-grained oolitic texture. In the Lower part, the ooids, 1−3 mm in size, often gather to form intermittent bands; 192 m thick. The Upper part is composed of light-gray massive oolitic limestone, in which the ooids are short and small in number, and there are sometimes gray bands in the limestone; 173 m thick.

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the overlying Dingpo Fm

Conformable contact with the underlying Xuchika Fm

Regional extent

Besides being exposed around Zhongzan of Batang, it is also distributed from Ricuo of Reda District, Xiangcheng County of Sichuan to Zhongdian of Yunnan.

Fossils

Lower part contains abundant Fusulinids Profusulinella ovata, P. paraaljutovica, P. pseudoaljutovica, Millerella pura, Pseudostaffella sphaeroidea and Schubertella polymorpha; Corals Carinthiophyllum sp. and Caninia sp.; Brachiopods Weiningia sp. and Athyris sp. Upper part also contains abundant Fusulinids Fusulinella colaniae, F. praebocki, Fusulina pseudokonnoi and Pseudostaffella larionovae, as well as Corals Corwenia batangensis, Kionophyllum sp., Lophophyllum sp., Bothrophyllum sp., etc.
